From the title itself, this is another singing contest. Philippines love music very much so competitions like this really top the television ratings. So to hear about The Voice Philippines at ABS-CBN's future programs, I was really excited and looking forward about it. The chosen host would be actress-host-singer Toni Gonzaga. The show would fit her well.
What's amazing about The Voice is that physical looks would not be the first priority in qualifying contestants. I've seen a lot of American and other foreign reality singing contest being franchised by ABS-CBN & GMA such as American Idol turned Philippine Idol and X-Factor turned Pinoy X-Factor. It was sad to see that upon auditions, jurors are very particular of the contestant's looks. Why? Because they intend to choose someone who can appeal the televiewers. So those who are not much good looking have this 50-50 percentage of being a contestant. They wanted the whole package of a Star, as what they say - looks, talent & personality.
With The Voice Philippines, I know that even those who are not very appealing will be confident enough to join and show their talent. The format of first part audition for this reality contest is called The Blindaudition where 4 judges would listen to the contentants but are not looking at them. They would have their back towards the stage so they have 90 seconds to just listen and decide whether they wanted the singing voice, in or not by turning around and facing the stage. If a judge decides the contestant in, he/she is responsible to coach the said contestant and be on his/her team. If incase 2 or more judges turns around or agrees that the contestant should be in, then the contestant has the choice who among them will be his/her mentor.
I remember 4 judges/coaches from The Voice America series were really famous and outstanding artists such as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The Voice Philippines 3rd judge/mentor is still undecided, but 2 of them will be Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo, Lea Salong and international artist Apl the Ap of Black Eyed Peas.
I will surely be a fan of this reality contest the moment it begins. I would love to see how contestants singing voice would convince judges to turn around for a yes, even without the appeal of what the eyes can see. Will wait for the first The Voice Philippines winner!
The Voice Philippines first airing date is June 09, 2013 to show the stage, the coaches, etc but the contest proper will begin next week or June 16, 2013 Saturday.
